Babcock: Design for change

Babcock: design for change is a unique and innovative programme of inspirational design, artwork, murals and motivational language being applied to various spaces, across many mediums throughout Devonport Dockyard. It seeks to make a difference to the workforce and place, by raising aspirations and bringing creative action to how we engage with and are affected by the workplace.

The project's aesthetics draw inspiration from Dazzle camouflage, a technique widely employed during World War I and, to a lesser extent, in World War II and subsequent periods for ships. We infused a contemporary twist into this classic concept by incorporating the Babcock color palette and complementing illustrations from Neasden Control Centre. This fusion resulted in the development of an exceptionally adaptable graphic style that could be seamlessly applied to various forms, locations, walls, and windows. Additionally, we crafted the Babcock Creative Catalogue, providing different teams and sections within the Dockyard the flexibility to select their desired design solutions come to life.
